Children's Development
Often foster children are a little behind their peers in some areas of development. It's not surprising really as they may have had a bad start in life, could have missed school or if they have suffered neglect or abuse they may just not be in the right place, mentally, to learn and develop educationally socially or emotionally.
However these things can change if they are in a safe, secure and nurturing environment. But just being in foster care doesn't mean things will automatically get better for them. They will suffer feelings of Separation and Loss and sometimes feel Guilty, thinking that what is happening to them is their fault. These things can all be helped in a nurturing environment, but often foster children need more. It is a foster carers job to be in place of the paerent and do their best. But often you will need the support of outside agencies.
Rest assured there will be lots of help from your fostering social worker and the child's social worker too, as well as Looked after Childrens Medicals, Pupil Education Support through school and access to other agencies if needed.
